my DIY sunday

I am definitely one of those people who bookmarks and pins multiple DIY projects that I tell myself I'm going to do when I have free time. (You should see my "things to do" board on Pinterest) But the thing is, I always have free time and I use it to watch reruns of Weeds. (Season 8 premieres next Sunday!!!) So when I got off work an hour early today, I decided to be productive and do two DIY projects. Yes, TWO!

The first project is in preparation for the music festival I'm going to next weekend in Michigan! It's an 11 hour drive but I am beyond pumped. I love road trips, I love music festivals AND one of my favorite artists, Girl Talk, is going to be there so I think the drive is def worth it. I totally started researching what celebrities have worn to music festivals so I would know what to pack. WhoWhatWear came to the rescue with two Coachella articles that I'm drawing inspiration from. I'm a total wimp when it comes to heat though so I won't be wearing dresses like Alexa Chung or Diane Kruger. I decided instead to pack some booties and shorts.

But not just any kind of shorts.....tie dye shorts! I used this article from The Signature Bow to tie dye some old cut-off shorts I had considered throwing out but never got around to it. I bought a yellow dye in hopes of turning the shorts some shade of green. It didn't exactly turn out that way but I'm still happy with the end result!
It turned out as kind of a yellow acid wash which still looks cool in my opinion :)
The lining got the bulk of the yellow dye.
My new booties!

The second project is because I have always always always wanted high waisted shorts. Every pair that I have found in the past is either too big in the waist and tight in the thighs or too big in the thighs and tight in the waist. It is beyond frustrating! I decided to take matters into my own hands and just find a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly and make my own high waisted shorts. Its not a very intense DIY project but hey, I felt productive today so I'm going to feature it!
the jeans: before (and from the back)
I marked the cutting line with sky blue eyeliner. How glamorous :)
the shorts: after! (and with my pale legs haha)

I'm super pumped to have new shorts to wear and I can't wait to debut my tie dye ones at the music fest! Hope everyone is having a great weekend, enjoy the rest of it while you can!

  1. Digging those 'tie dyed' shorts. The dye actually gives them kind of a vintage, worn in flair. Very cool in my opinion!
